Freedom of the press and China

Rusty Bentley says: "There are several areas where I disagree with Paul Simon. We were stationed in central China in Henan Provence, and BBC and VOA were not only not blocked but were standard fare for our university's students. Also, with CNN available at the major hotel in Zheng Zhou, the capital, CCTV 9 and China Daily were not to my mind as story-selective in the way Paul says. However, it was I assumed obvious that I knew all news was subject to government control and always produced with a weather eye to Beijing".
