DEMOCRACY: Democratic Process
Cameron Sawyer replies to John Heelan's caustic comments about "democracy":
"Is John Heelan saying that since our democratic processes are flawed (as they, inarguably, are), then we should not worry about them? That perhaps we should give up on democracy? He even puts the words democratic process in quotation marks, as if to say democratic, so-called.
That argument seems to me to lead to justifying grabbing power, however possible, as long is it leads to the right results. That seems to lead, in turn, to enlightened dictatorship as the best form of government. I would say, rather, that we should try to improve our democratic processes (I will not put quotation marks around them), and certainly not let important policy decisions get shunted right out of those processes".
