DEMOCRACY: Re; Democratic Process
John Heelan answers Cameron Sawyer: "In a recent note, I wrote I admire the principles of the US system of governance, especially the concept of clear separation of powers and independence of State legislatures. However, it seems that the admirable US system has actually developed into a plutocracy with the ability to blur the boundaries between those separated powers."
Despite my admiration for the US system, I deplore the fact that political power in that country is bought blatantly by big money, which is then rewarded by the incumbents. Some cynics comment that the US has the best government that money can buy. The last and forthcoming presidential elections are classic examples.
Remove large-scale sponsorship, and the political debts it implies, and then you will enjoy one of the better methods of governance in the world".
