EUROPE: The Euro

Paul Simon, who spent most of his career in the US foreign service, says: "Christopher Jones does seem to have a basic point in his denunciation of the euro: as one British diplomat/economist scoffed to me in 1997, "The EURO will not work until there is full factor mobility"Although the EU has moved some modest distance towards this not-necessarily-desirable goal, it is a long way off". RH: I do not share this pessimism.
