Machismo or Male Chauvinism?

Rosa de Oena comments: "So Fox is allowed to take communion. Well, the Church is always very accommodataing with the powerful, and giving communion to a divorced man is not the worst that it has done in its long history.

The problem is that the Church quite often behaves like a political appointee, being strongly partisan of the regime it supports, only to claim the civil servan's immobility when the regime changes. That is undignified. They have to choose between being truly impartial between the regime and its opponents, or be willing to pack their bags and rewrite their resumes without a peep when the new guys come in. Thousands of non-clergy could teach them how to do it"

My comment: For decades I was anticlerical because of the alliance between .the Catholic Church and dictatorships. Medellín and Vatican 2 changed all that, and the Church Proclaims a crusade against the rich and powerfu, notably Wall Street. This is partly sincere, and parlty repositiong itself as Rosa de Pena describes. Now the cruel legacy of most Latin American armies has stirred international anger and is forcing them to reconsider their role in society. It is too early to affirm that they have learnde their lesson.
