International History Textbook Project - Mexico and Texas

The confrontation of US and Mexican history textbooks will largely concern Texas. There was today an interesting discussion with James Olson, a professor at Sam Houston University, about his book A Line in the Sand. The Alamo in Blood and Memory. Remember the Alamo! He describes the different Texan interpretations of the Alamo episode. In the discussion, a scholarly Anglo said, I could not tell whether in anger sorrow, or resignation, that San Antonio now has a Mexican majority, that in due course that will be true of all of Texas, that Spanish will become its official language, and that the Mexican version of The Alamo will be the accepted one. Who knows?
