Miles Seeley says (and I completely agree with him):

"Out of the possible chaos Professor Sacco describes (every professor choosing his own texts every year), I can imagine the emergence of an exciting atmosphere of debate that might lead to enlightenment. History, it seems to me, is so much in the eye of the beholder-- contemporary or historical-- that encouraging so much diversity appears to be a much better approach than we usually see."
