Hoover Institution: My reinstatement

I am happy to report that, on the recommendation of the Provost, John Raisian has reinstated me at Hoover. I have sent him this letter:

Dear John: Your message reinstating me has given me immense satisfaction. It should be obvious to all that I have been trying to help Hoover ever since I came to Stanford, and I plan to continue so doing. Anything I say about Hoover should be so interpreted. I would be delighted at any time to discuss them with you, should you have time. I wish to retain my carrel in the Tower, even though a slight heart attack, forcing me to walk with a cane, has made it difficult for me to walk up the steps. I gladly let other people use it, on the recommendation of the reference librarians. At present it is used by the husband of a National Fellow. I hope my improved walking will make me more mobile, but I intend to keep my cane, a magnificent piece of Mexican folk art given me by an alumna who is also a member of the WAIS board.; it an unfailing conversation piece. Of course, WAIS is independent of Hoover, the only connection being that several Fellows are also members of WAIS. However, they should have cordial relations, and WAIS is delighted to open its network to all members of Hoover, just as I have interviewed many Hoover Fellows on the WAIS TV program. I would be delighted to interview you.
