IRAQ: Past and future

Miles Seeley, who was a CIA officer in the Middle East, questions Rosa de Pena's allegations about CIA involvement in coups in Iraq: "I will forgo comment on much of Rosa de Pena's remarks, but I was In Jordan from 1964-70 and I never got a whiff of any CIA backing for the 1963 or 1968 coups. In fact, some people in our Embassy had been stationed in Baghdad in 1963 and were under fire as they fled the country. They certainly had no idea it was a CIA-backed coup, either. If it was, it did not result in a friendlier Iraq. I was unable to go to Baghdad, much as I wanted to".
