IRAQ: Anti-war protests
Phyllis Gardner asserts that the anti-Iraq war protesters represented "mainstream America": "The following pictures (taken by my husband's cousin in San Francisco) show that the vast majority of demonstrators are Caucasian, upper class, and of varied ages. The demonstrations are being undertaken by mainstream America. Go to the site: http://homepage.mac.com/kenrackow/PeaceMarch-01.03/"
RH: TV pictures of the Washington, DC demonstrators showed a different kind of crowd. I was annoyed because, while some congressmen were speaking about Iraq and other serious issues outside Congress, scruffy-looking demonstrators were standing behind them so that their posters would show on television, distracting our attention from the speakers and their arguments..
