Israel and the Arab States: The Movies

By definition, WAISers have different opinions. Two of mine are these:

1. Much as one may sympathize with the Jews, the creation of the state of Israel was, all things considered, a bad thing for the Jews themselves. Before, Jews had held respected positions in Arab countries, and in Egypt is was normal for every board to have a Jew on it. Now they are hated in most of the Arab world. 2.The movies should be a force for the good, but they have been taken over by producers whose interest is simply to make money.

The combination o these two beliefs found confirmation in "Israelis whom Egyptians love to hate" (The Economist, 1/22/2000). It describes how Egyptian movie makers are pandering to anti-Israeli feelings by making films demonising the Jews.
