As Brazil goes, so goes South America?

The US Treasury may have thought that Brazil was a good bet, but not so investors. Headlines (9/24/02) proclaimed " Brazil's currency plunges to record low". An AP photograph showed presidential candidate Luis Inącio Lula da Silva marching with Rio's governo, a black woman named Benedita da Silva. The governor has the support of the blacks of the teeming favelas (slums). Brazil has one of the worse income distribution disparities in the world. The Black movement which has hit the US and Africa ia now affecting Brazil. While the victory of Lula da Silva seems probable, how this will affect Brazil is not clear. On the same day headlines spoke of the crisis in Venezuela. The US has its eyes on Iraq. I trust someone is watching South America.
