As usual, the IPI Report (1998, No.2) gives excellent worldwide coverage of government violations of press freedom. However, that is only a third of the story. The World Press Review (May 1998) reproduces from The Independent on Sunday a sharp attack on censorship abuses by newspaper publishers, as exemplified by Rupert Murdoch's vicious attempts to suppress the memoirs of Chris Patten, last governor of Hong Kong. The third villain in censorship is the public, which may resent being told the truth.
Let me stress again that WAIS is an open forum. If you disagree with some one, write a concise, informative and polite rebuttal.
