The Media

     Diana Hull flatters me:
"There are no nationally syndicated writers in the US who have your breadth and depth of knowledge or who can put events in prospective in the way that you do. I don't have any idea how many people you reach with WAIS E Mail, but I wish it were tens of millions. Have you thought of doing a column for national or possibly international distribution? It could certainly raise money for WAIS! Merry Christmas and many thanks for sharing your vast experience and rich life and with others."

My grateful reply: Given the commercial nature of the press, there is probably no mass market for my musings. I do not feel like chasing after newspaper publishers, but if they came to me I would be delighted. We know how many are on the WAIS list, but that is a small select group. Many more download postings from the web version and forward them to others. This delights me as a means of fighting the commercial control of the media.
Television is a case in point. Bill Van Orsdol is campaigning hard to preserve the good programs on Cable TV, threatened by a takeover by ATT/TCI. However, I was saddened by the response of Spiros Anddropoulos. He agrees with me about the programs, but suggests the fight is hopeless in view of television's need for mass audiences.
