THE PRESS: IPI Global Journalist

The free press is an essential element in a modern state, and it is grossly unfair that it is the target of such uninformed attacks. Moreover, in Latin America and especially in Colombia, newsmen literally risk their lives, which press critics do not. For this reason we welcome the First Quarter 2001 issue of IPI Global Journalist, which features a section "Journalists under Fire". In the past two years 111 have been killed. "Ghostwriters in the Peruvian press" details the abuses of the discredited Fujimori regime.
