Mexico: Walmart near Teotihuacan

Daniel Delarosa writes: Could you possibly comment a little more on the group of leftists that opposed the construction  of the Wal-Mart near the ruins of Teotihuacán in Mexico?

RH: They cited it as an example of American economic imperialism. I have not seen the Wal-Mart, but one reliable source said it is two miles from the ruins, while the `protesters said one kilometer. From the pictures I have seen it is very unintrusive.  The day the store opened, the store was flooded with local customers, happy to have a good store in their village. It was clearly a defeat for the protesters.
