MEXICO: Public health

Elias Castillo, who came to the US from Mexico, writes: "In regards to Cameron Sawyer's remarks on Mexico and its health systems: It is remarkable that a nation like Mexico, with more than 45 per cent of its population of 100 million living in poverty, can have the fourth largest number of billionaires in the world. By ranking it is the United States, Germany, Japan and then Mexico. One has to wonder how such billionaires came to be and what would happen to them if Mexico had an efficient and corruption-free internal revenue service. With a well-functioning Mexican IRS. the revenues collected from those amazing fortunes would do much to improve health services in Mexico. Cameron is absolutely correct: the United States cannot take care of Mexico's sick when we have so many ill of our own".
