Justin Carreno forwards this information from an expert on the history of Oaxaca in the Geography Department at the University of Wyoming, Carlos Rincon-Mautner: "...I am almost certain that there are a number of groups with Chinese ethnic origin in Mexico. There are also many Chinese elements that have become part of Mexican culture: i.e. a popular dress in Puebla, that of the China Poblana not only refers to the elegant and colorful outfit which undoubtedly had its origins wit the silks imported from the Orient, especially the Philippines. Since 1576, Mexico was the intermediate point for trade between the Orient and Spain. The indigenous group which you are referring to from Southwestern Oaxaca, are the Chatino..."
