Divorce in Mexico

Bienvenido Macario asks if divorce is legal in Mexico. Raśl Escalante`replies: "Yes, divorce is legal in Mexico. The War of Reform, in the mid XIX century, was won by the Liberal Party. A part of their platform was to destroy the power of the Catholic Church over civil affairs. Thus, the office of the Civil Registry was set up according to lay rules. The control of cemeteries, the task of recording births and deaths, the power to wed and grant divorce, etc. were all taken over by the state. To date, religious weddings have no official recognition according to Mexican law".
