MEXICO: The Elections

Don Mabry writes:

"It has been 27 years since my book, Mexico's Accion Nacional, was published, and the PAN has changed a lot in those years. It is more conservative than it used to be. It is not a libertarian party, as some seem to suggest. It doesn't believe in laissez-faire. The party continues to have a variety of ideological strains within it, just as PRI does. I am a bit amazed that the party which has represented and tried to preserve the status quo in Mexico has not been labeled conservative. What has happened in recent years is that the PRI and PAN have grown closer together. After all, it was the PRI which reversed a lot of the anti-clerical measures."
