Obviously Jon Huyck should compare notes with Philip Terzian, who writes: "The terms are high church and low in the United States as well, but "evangelical" in the Episcopal church is not necessarily to be confused with fundamentalist: It pertains more to liturgy than biblical interpretation. (I don't represent myself as infallible in these matters, but for the record, I possess a graduate degree from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia, and am a member of the vestry at my [high church/Anglo-Catholic] parish in Washington.)"
RH: I wonder about the origin of the expressions "high church" and "low church". Did they originally suggest a social difference?
