Michele Horaney says "Speaking of "Evangelical" meaning "Lutheran" in Germany, I am a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which is, remarkably, the LIBERAL and PROGRESSIVE Lutheran synod. The name comes via mergers of synods over the last 40 years, but puts to the fore and keeps there the concept of "sola scriptura" -- the word alone -- that Martin Luther championed."
RH: This brings in another dimension, the political one. Southern Baptists are divided into two wings, so are Catholics. What do conservative Catholics think of liberation theology? Incidentally, can Martin Luther be descibed as progressive? He strongly supported the suppression of the Peasants' Revolt.
