VATICAN: The next Pope and the next governor of California

Christopher Jones says:

"There is an article in today's La Vanguardia (10/2/03) that suggests that the Holy Father himself is behind these rumors about a possible black pope, as the Vatican curia prepares the public for Pontiff's death. The article goes on to put forward the name of Cardinal Christof Schšnborn of Vienna as a leading front runner to succeed John Paul II. At 58 years old, it sems that Schšnborn is the youngest of the contenders".

RH:
The Austrians are very pleased that Schwarzenegger is the front runner in the California gubernatorial elections. He is busy denying rumors that he made pro-Hitler statements. Presumably the Austrians are boosting the candidacy of Schšnborn. Whether the press will discover anything similar in his background remains to be seen. As an exercise in comparative politics, it is interesting to study the contrast between the elections in the Vatican and California. There is one similarity: in both cases, ethnicity is a factor,.and consequently national pride, pride being one of the seven deadly sins.
