Islam and women

Rob Gaudet answers Akilah Muhammad's defense of the status of women in Islam: "If this is true, then why doesn't the Koran contain any examples of women with multiple husbands? It seems that all of the favors (e.g. marrying younger spouses, taking many partners) go in favor of the men and, in particular, Mohammed, but rarely or never in the favor of women. Ms. Muhammad's habit of writing "Peace Be Upon Him" or "PBUH" in shortened version is an indication that she is what the West would consider a fundamentalist. I was once given a copy of the Qur'an in Jordan and it contained these same phrases every time the name "Muhammad (PBUH)" was mentioned. Modern western translations, however, do not contain that gratuitous phrase".
