War and Peace
People continue to kill each other in the name of religion. Usually it is nothing more than a label. I just spoke with a WAISer who is an authority on China. A Jew, he said "I respect Buddhism much more than my own religion." In other words, religion is often nothing more than an empty label in the name of which people fight.
One intelligent remedy is to be found in the booming field of religion and science. At Oxford, the Andreas Idros Chair of Science and Religion has just been created. The professor is a natural scientist, John Hedley Brooke, now Professor of the History of Science at the University of Lancaster. The journal Science and Spirit is published in Oxford. In the U.S., Boston Theological Institute publishes the Journal of Faith and Science.
