Women and Islam

Miles Seeley, who had long experience in the Muslim world, writes: This WAIS commentary raises (once again) the issue of how justified we are in forcefully imposing our culture, our values, and our legal and political systems on others. I for one have had trouble wrestling with this problem ever since Jimmy Carter began coupling foreign aid with how "humanitarian" the recipients are. I have no answers. I have found both good and bad in every culture I have lived in, leading me to the conclusion that we in the US have no monopoly on "goodness."
