The Women

Jaqui White and Linda Nyquist are ideal WAISers. They disagree widely, especially on Saudi Arabia, but they regard each other with esteem. They are both kind people, and that is a quality I deeply appreciate. Linda says:
One of my biggest concerns is the lack of compassionate health care for women in Saudi Arabia, and other such cultures (tomorrow I will post a book list). Physician friends have told me of performing procedures without anesthetics (i.e., placing chest tubes, D&C's, etc) which they would not even consider doing here. Frankly, I have heard some horrifying stories. Admittedly, I have seen some pretty gruesome things here, too. It just seems that in a country as wealthy as Saudi Arabia, they should have the best. And their reputations have been thoroughly sullied thanks to the report of abuse and rape of Philippine maids, with some of the worst abuse coming from the women. This seems to be well-documented, and has hit the courts. Now I believe we should consider Indian "bride burning."
