SPAIN: Carnival (carnaval) in Spain - sex inversion
Commenting on David Gilmore's Carnival & Culture -sex, symbol & status in Spain (Yale University .Press, 1998), the subject of a previous posting, John Wonder says "If Gilmore visited the Carnival in Rio he would sing a different tune. Dressing up as women in very common, along with a lot of other things". RH: There must be books on carnival in Rio, which is bigger and more elaborate than those elsewhere. It is for poor people an escape from the misery of the rest of the year.
