The Duque de Alba and the "Red Duchess"
Now we have another problem: Cherchez la femme. Pedro Marín Guzman writes:
"I always understood the sobriquet "La Duquesa Roja" applied to Dña. Luisa Isabel Álvarez de Toledo y Maura, Duquesa de Medina-Sidonia G. de E. Exiled for her socialist opinions, she spent her time writing for foreign journals such as Le Monde and Liberation, until her return to Spain in 1976. She has also written a number of books in collaboration with the Universidad de Cádiz and the Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Andalucía as well as the Sorbonne de París. She's self-taught, the only other influence being her grandfather, Gabriel Maura Gamazo, a historian and academic."
My comment: Add this to the question by Linda Nyquist and you have the hunting of the snark or the Red Queen.
