SPAIN: Judge Baltasar Garzon
Christopher Jones calls our attention to http://dp.spypress.com/mostrar_noticia.php?taula=historic_noticia11&id_noticia=1785853 and says" "Given the agreements over the past few years on compensation for forced labor in Nazi German industry, recovery of gold deposits and so on, Judge Baltasar Garzón (the man who tried to bring General Pinochet to justice) has suggested that the Republican victims of the Civil War in Spain will have to be compensated. This news arrives on my desk on November 20, the anniversary of the death of Francisco Franco and the day the Spanish congress opens debate on the recovery of mass graves which dot the country".
RH: This compensation business is getting out of hand. In any case, it should not be restricted to the Republican victims. The "Republicans" killed or exiled many people, including many splendid individuals, some of them friends of mine, not to mention many priests. Justice must be even-handed.
