A.L. Kennedy, On bullfighting ( Yellow Jersey Press, 1999, pp 184) confirms my belief that the García Lorca-bullfighting aficionados, including Hemingway, are a strange, irresponsible crowd. The author is a sickly woman so devoted to Lorca that she went to Spain and visited his house, where she went into a kind of ecstasy. Lorca wrote his famous poem about the death of a bullfighter, and this led her to make this detailed study of bullfighting, which includes details such as the fact that the bullfighter tapes his penis on his thigh.
