Anti-Bush demonstrations

Protest meetings against Bush demanding the return of US troops from Iraq were held in major US cities, the biggest one being in Washington, DC. My reaction, and surely that of many TV spectators, was that the screaming young women organizers inspired little confidence.

The theme repeated ad nauseam that "Bush is a liar" was not the acme of political sophistication- An Arab, Ashnaf Bayoumi, former head of the UN Food Programmme and therefore a man with a technical background, was so angry that he was incoherent. The best speaker was a Jew, Carl Messineo, who demanded that the Palestinians' right of return be honored. It is unlikely that Israel will pay any attention to him.
