US: Mexican Consular Cards

At first Mexican consular cards were issued only at Mexican consulates. Now, Virginia Abernethy reports, the Treasury Department advises financial institutions that it is O.K. to honor these cards, despite the Department of Homeland Security warning that they constitute an added security risk.

Local officials make public buildings available to representatives of Mexican Consulates so that these cards can be more easily issued. In Nashville TN, matricula consular cards were issued at the Antioch high school. ["Mexicans can Get ID Cards Issued Today". The Tennessean, 11/ 15/03]. The Superintendent of the Nashville School System is Hispanic.

In Lufkin, Texas, the mayor who definitely is not Hispanic also made a public building available for the purpose of issuing cards. These opportunities for illegal aliens to purchase a modicum of legitimacy are regular mob scenes.
