US: Aid to Israel
John Heelan replies to Harry Papasotiiou on US aid to Israel: "If Harry would like to consult "US Aid to Israel FY 1949 -FY2003" prepared by the Jewish Virtual Library (http://www.us-israel.org/jsource/US-Israel/U.S._Assistance_to_Israel1.html),he will find that the US has aided Israel to the tune of $90.4 billion in this period. This represents some 30% of the US aid budget.
I refer Harry also to 'Issue Brief for Congress" IB85066 6 June 2002 which states "Since 1976 Israel has been the largest annual recipient of US foreign assistance and is the largest cumulative recipient since World War II", (source: http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/11062.pdf)
Further CRS report for Congress on Foreign Assistance for the Middle East- 28 March 20- RL31342- shows that for the years 2001-2003 Israel was due to receive a cumulative $8.5 billion, the biggest Arab hitters being Egypt with $5.8 billion and then Jordan with $903 million. (source: http://www.:fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/9190.pdf)
If Harry has cumulative figures to support his point I would be interested to see them"
