UNITED STATES: Diplomacy by assassination--Chile
Did Eisenhower order the assassination of Lumumba? Did US- sponsored assassinations end under President Kennedy? Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, touring Latin America, was in Chile, where naturally the case of Pinochet was on everyone's mind. She said that thought justice had been done, and offered the collaboration of the United States in finding the truth. However, she could not speak of the role of the CIA in the1973 assassination of Salvador Allende, since the relevant papers are still classified. Does that mean that even she cannot see them?
