US: Boycotting of US companies

Rob Gaudet told us about a website promoting a worldwide boycott of US goods in protest against the war in Iraq. I wrote:"I suspect that the list may have originated with peace groups in the US". Rob replies "Actually, I think the website is put together in Australia. It proposes a boycott of all American companies including McDonalds and Disney, which strikes me as ridiculous because they've done nothing to support the war. Indeed, McDonald's is a franchise and local owners run each business, so any boycott would only hurt local business owners" RH: Yes, but the boycott is partly supported by rival local companies. In any case, here is globalization at work. We receive these e-mail messages and sometimes cannot tell where they came from.
