Foreign service slang terms for world areas
The well-known Argentine diplomat Raúl Estrada-Oyuela enriches our knowledge of diplomatic slang. Diccionario de la Real Academia Española, please note:
"The "Revlon circuit" concept is in use in many foreign services. During my time as Ambassador to China, a counsellor was transferred from Mexico City to Beijing, and she sent a cable to our foreign office reminding it of her preference for Paris, Rome or London. Her cable was copied to me by another colleague full of good purposes. Then I sent message to the Human Resources Director in Buenos Aires asking him to inform my her that Revlon had opened a shop in Beijing. Most of the people laughed around the world but she, lacking a sense of humor, still hates me".
My comment: I hope the humorless woman (and you!) got hardship post supplemental pay. Paul Simon in China can enlighten us on the US policy.
