History in a Broader Context

     Britons are ambivalent about the EU. They feel closer to Americans and Australians than they do to the French. The feeling seems to be reciprocal. John Wonder writes:
     I have long thought that the US and the British Commonwealth belong together politically, if not explicitly so. We have a way of leaving things unsaid, but acted upon. We have much of this already (which makes the French gnash their teeth). I would say leave things alone and let the cooperativeness develop naturally. I do not think that Britain really belongs with the EU, but with us.
