The US, Israel and the Palestinians
Bob Gard says: My point was not that the settlements are the only issue. If the Israelis would abandon the settlements in accordance with UN Resolutions, so that the Palestinians could have a viable state, the other issues could be resolved with much less difficulty. In these circumstances, if the Palestinians were willing to give up the right of return, Jerusalem would remain as a problem, but it could be resolved by giving the Palestinians the concessions proposed by Barak. Settlements are the key. If we had the courage to point out the relevant laws of war and to support the UN Resolutions, a settlement could be reached -- but political reality prevents it".
My comment: This is leading the US to a major confrontation with the UN and the EU. The world reality is more real than the US political reality.
