US: Mexican workers in the US

Miles Seeley reports: "There is a program for bringing Mexican workers here that is a success in Kansas City, but I don't know how widespread it is. It allows employers to bring Mexican workers here for 10 months a year, and they must return home for 2 months. Both the contractor who re-roofed my house, and the lawn service I use, have this program. I must say the Mexicans work very hard and have an admirable outlook. Speak a little Spanish to them, or bring them water on a hot day, and they are quick to respond. One man I have spoken to often has a wife and 5 kids in Mexico, and almost all his paycheck goes to them (their wages and working conditions are strictly regulated here). He said there are long waiting lists in Mexico for the program".
