UNITED STATES and Mexican Immigration
Mexicans and Mexican Americans are rejoicing because the latest census figures show a great increase in the Mexican population, especially in California and Texas. Even Republicans are chasing after their votes. President Bush tries out his Spanish on them. I myself have very positive feelings about them. It is therefore not easy to state that the problem of Mexican immigration is a complicated one in terms of national policy- There are long-term problems which are seldom discussed. For careful, well-documented discussions we should go to a journal which deserves to be better known: The Social Contract. The Fall 2000 issue features an article by Diana Hull, who will speak at the WAIS conference.
