US Policy toward Afghanistan

Edith Coliver has sent me a long message from an Afghan living in the US. It is very similar to the one I posted saying that the Taliban do not represent his people and that bombing Afghanistan would be grossly unfair. I thought this proposal was limited to a few columnists, but, in "Allies in search of a strategy", The Economist (9/22-29/01) says "The Deputy Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz, has talked of "ending" states which sponsor terrorism. If it refused to hand over Bin Laden and his associates, Afghanistan's regime would be one obvious target". Is this why a huge striking force has been sent into the area?
