The US political system. Money talks...and votes
The Enron scandal has shaken Americans' trust in the honesty of their political system, and the impact abroad has been enormous. The latest issue of California Common Cause lists the "top 10 donors to state legislative candidates, 1999-2000." Enron is not among them, but Philip Morris companies are third. Most disturbing is the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians (7th, with over $1 million!). The explanation must be gambling; I had never heard of this "band". Other tribes must have contributed heavily too. Is this "a more perfect union"?
