US: The USS Liberty episode

Virginia Abernethy gives this ezplanation of the USS Liberty episode: "The Liberty, an intelligence ship, had been eavesdropping on activities taking place on-shore. The Israelis realized that their execution of about 60 Egyptian prisoners of war had probably been detected. Suppression of this evidence seems the likeliest motive for attempting to sink the Liberty through nearly continuous plane and torpedo attacks over a two-hour period, while the Liberty was flying an American flag. More than 30 American sailors were killed and up to 100 wounded. Survivors gather annually to commemorate their experience".
