UN Reforms and Environmental Issues

     Edith Coliver defends the UN:
"Those who badmouth the UN are afraid that the U.S. will have to give up its precious sovereignty. All our votes have shown this. Having been with the UN from its inception in 1945, I am a strong supporter of this organization and see it as presenting a hope for the U.S. and for humanity. As Benjamin Franklin said it so well: "We must hang together or we'll hang separately."
My comment: Stanford students elected Kofi Annan as the commencement speaker, but there is nothing in the Stanford curriculum about the UN, indicating a lack of serious interest in it. Kofi Annan will make a pitch for the UN, and I encourage The Stanford Review to promote a serious discussion of it in its issues prior to commencement.
