WAIS 2003 Benefactors; Phyllis Gardner

Phyllis Gardner is the highly-esteemed Vice.Chairman of WAIS, whose members should know more about her. Incidentally, we thank her for her contribution to the WAIS Survival and Development Fund

PHYLLIS GARDNER, M.D. Phyllis Gardner, M.D. is currently a tenured associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine since 1984. She is widely published in the field of cell biology and pharmacology, and has co-authored a pharmacology textbook, which is now in its second edition. In addition to her role as faculty member, she served as Senior Associate Dean for Education and Student Affairs from 1998-2001. She has received numerous national awards and honors, including the Faculty Development Award from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association Foundation, the Burroughs Wellcome Faculty Scholar in Clinical Pharmacology, and the Judith Poole Award for Women in Science.

In addition to her academic affiliation, Dr. Gardner served as the Vice President for Research and Principal Scientist of Alza Corporation for three years. Currently Dr. Gardner serves on the Board of Directors of several companies, including Aerogen, Inc., Health Hero Network, Inc., and iMEDD, Inc. Dr. Gardner is a co-founder and Director of CambriaTech, a venture development group, and a co-founder of Genomics Collaborative, Inc. Dr. Gardner serves as an adjunct partner to Essex Woodland Health Ventures and as an advisor to Draupnir,LLC, a private equity firm.

Dr. Gardner earned her M.D. from Harvard Medical School. She received postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Stanford School of Medicine and in basic pharmacology at Columbia University and University College, London.
