WAIS TV Programs

     WAIS continues to interview outstanding scholars. This evening, Saturday, the first interview with David Pike will be broadcast at 7 p.m., over Channel 6, and at 8:05 p.m. on Monday it will be rebroadcast over Channel 77. David was recently here from Paris, and we made two interviews. His research career has taken him to several countries, most recently to the archives of Germany and Austria.
     These interviews are broadcast of Palo Alto's Cable Coop, thanks to which we also receive C-Span and the SCOLA rebroadcasts of foreign news programs, These permit me and many other people to keep our finger on the pulse of foreign countries, a service for which we are properly thankful to SCOLA.
     Like other cable stations, ours is threatened with a take-over by ATT. While financially and even technically this would bring benefits, it might threaten programs like ours, SCOLA, and C-Span, which cannot compete with pop shows. Palo Alto City Council is playing a decisive role in these negotiations, and we trust that it will take measures to protect the high quality programs like those mentioned.
