World Press Review, December 2000
The only thing wrong with the World Press Review is that its arrival each month is the tolling of the time bell. It tolls for all of us. The December issue devotes its feature article to "Raising Serbia's Sights. The People Take Belgrade by Ballot." However, more important is the section on the Middle East peace (?) process entitled "Descent into darkness." After an introduction by the magazine´s Jerusalem-based correspondent, there is a selection of articles from both the Israeli and Arab side. One gets the feeling of helplessness. In a recent posting. a Lebanese WAISer quoted an article from the Orlando Sentinel as proof that many Florida Jews show an understanding of the Palestinian position. That seems to be wishful thinking. The Economist (November 18) has a letter by a Florida Jew absurdly arguing that Palestine was invented during the 1967 war. Rebuttals came promptly.Ronald Hilton - 12/01/00
