Celebrating St. Valentine's Day mafia style
Christopher Jones recalls that "There was also the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre," which was the handiwork of Chicago mafia boss Al Capone. It began his eventual decline which eventually landed "little Caesar" in Alcatraz for 12 years on tax evasion charges". RH: That was in 1929. Al Capone died in 1947. The pope abolished the feast of St.Valentine in 1969. Al Capone, like most mafiosi, was given an elaborate Catholic funeral. I wonder if the pope decided to distance the Church from the mafia?
