War in Iraq: Participation of different countries
Michele Horaney says: "Slovak Spectator report below. I heard on one of the network reports there were 75 Slovaks offering expertise and aid in the anti-chemical forces..". Here is the report: Slovaks opt to stay in Kuwait. Only 19 Slovaks opted to take a special flight for Czech and Slovak civilians out of the Kuwait just hours before the outbreak of war in neighbouring Iraq. More than 80 Slovaks are staying. Slovak oncologist Ján Gyárfás said, "Of course, [my wife and children in Slovakia] are frightened for me, but they trust my assessment of the situation." Slovakia also has 69 soldiers based in Iraq as part of a joint anti-chemical defence unit with 358 Czech soldiers.
